FlightSafety Enhances Its Gulfstream G550 Training With Operational Day Flow Training Methodology

NEW YORK (May 19, 2014) – FlightSafety International announces that it has further enhanced its Gulfstream G550 training program through the use of the company’s new and innovative Operational Day Flow training methodology. In addition, FlightSafety’s Gulfstream G550 flight simulator located in Farnborough is being equipped with Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and the new VITAL 1100 visual system.

“Operational Day Flow is a highly customized method of training that transforms ground school by presenting critical procedures and tasks according to phase of flight rather than being introduced one system at a time” said Steve Gross, Vice President, Sales. “Our Customers will also benefit from the upgrades we are making to the Gulfstream G550 simulator located at the Farnborough Center. We have recently installed CPDLC and will complete the integration of FlightSafety’s new VITAL 1100 visual system in July.”

Operational Day Flow training methodology is currently in use during Gulfstream G550 training at FlightSafety’s Learning Center in Savannah, Georgia and will soon be provided in Dallas, Texas; Wilmington, Delaware; and at the Farnborough airport in the United Kingdom. The Center in Long Beach, California will offer it this fall.

Pilots who train using Operational Day Flow learn tasks and procedures within the context of defined flight plans and city pairs. This new training methodology includes extensive use of Matrix, FlightSafety’s integrated training system. Matrix significantly enhances the instructor’s ability to enrich the pilot’s knowledge by showing how systems work and interact in a real time environment. It also enables the pilots to immediately put into practice the activity being taught by the instructor.

The VITAL 1100 visual system offers mission-specific scenes with vastly improved content, and unprecedented fidelity. Hundreds of millions of scene elements are processed every second and presented along with physics-based weather models of rain, snow and hail that develop and react as they do in the real world. VITAL 1100 provides resolutions that are over 12 million pixels for a typical three channel out the window field of view of 200 degrees horizontally. This offers a substantial improvement in visual acuity especially on short final in a fixed wing aircraft.

FlightSafety has been the official factory authorized training organization for Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation for more than four decades. Training is provided using a fleet of 30 full flight simulators, six cabin trainers, and comprehensive crew emergency equipment at Learning Centers in Dallas, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Hong Kong; Long Beach, California; Wilmington, Delaware; and at the London Farnborough Airport in the United Kingdom. FlightSafety’s third Gulfstream G650 simulator will enter service at the Long Beach center in July of this year.
